Greetings Delegates and Alternates to the Democratic Party of Virginia’s 11th Congressional District Democratic Convention:
The 11th CD Committee looks forward to your participation in the 11th CD Convention, scheduled for May 19 at 10 am at Luther Jackson Middle School, 3020 Gallows Road, Falls Church (Merrifield). Entrance to the convention is on the right side in the rear of the school.
We encourage all delegates and alternates to arrive at the school early, preferably by 9:15 am, so we can get the credentialing and caucusing processes done prior to the opening of the convention.
You can access the convention call and last minute information at the 11th CD Committee website: http://11thdistrictdemocrats.org/ and feel free to email or call me if you have any unanswered questions.
I will also be sending you a copy of the Rules adopted for the 11th CD convention and a list of all candidates for national delegates and alternates who will be seeking your support on May 19.
The 11th CD has 8 slots for the National Convention in Charlotte up for election on May 19, and other business:
- We will be electing 4 woman delegates, 3 male delegates, and 1 male alternate.
- We will be electing 3 persons each to the state convention Rules and Credentials Committees.
- We will be electing 1 presidential Elector from the 11th CD.
- We will be considering resolutions submitted to the convention.
We will also hear from several of our elected officials, most notably our incumbent Congressman and 2012 nominee for reelection Gerry Connolly. Others expected to speak are Senate Minority Leader Dick Saslaw, DPVA Chair Brian Moran, former DNC Chair Terry McAuliffe, and other elected officials.
Many of you who were elected alternates to the 11th CD and state conventions will find yourselves moved up to delegate status for both the 11th CD (May 19) and state convention (June 2 at GMU) to fill delegate slots that were not filled by the April caucus process in Fairfax and Prince William Counties, and Fairfax City.
The state convention will take place on Saturday, June 2 with additional activities on the evening of Friday, June 1. It will open at 9 am on Saturday, June 2 at the George Mason University Center for the Arts. (Directions here: http://cfa.gmu.edu/directions/.
More info on the state convention can be found at the DPVA website: http://www.vademocrats.org/StateConvention2012 . Here is info from that site about being a delegate or alternate to the state convention: http://www.vademocrats.org/dnc-delegate-selection-process.
We will have great conventions on both days. We look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new Democrats as we work to reelect President Obama, elect Tim Kaine to the Senate, and return Gerry Connolly to Congress in the 11th CD.
On behalf of the 11th CD Democratic Committee,
George Burke, Chair
11th CD Democratic Committee
