Last night, a political earthquake happened in Prince William County!
In a special election for Clerk of Court and the Democratic nominee, Jacqueline Smith, won the race! Jackie is a member of our 11th Congressional District Democratic Committee.
Democrats are motivated, Trump’s antics even motivate voters in local government races, and the Trump Effect is real.
- Jackie was outspent 7 to 1in the race – $235K to $36K
- Absentee turnout was way up– nearly 2,000 votes or 8% were cast early – that is unheard of in special elections.
- Jackie won the absentee vote by 20% while only winning the County by 10% – in other words, Democrats were motivated.
- Jackie becomes the second Democrat to win a countywide race in Prince William County in the last 18 years.
All of this bodes well for our 2017 November elections and in 2018, Congressman Gerry Connolly’s 11th Congressional District, consisting of Prince William County, Fairfax County, and Fairfax City precincts.
2017 Primaries will be held Tuesday, June 13, and 2017 General Election will be held Tuesday November 7.
